Keeping the Vision Alive

Joe Speng (formerly known as Jhoe Speng) is bringing good, clean fun back to dancehall with his latest single, “Tek Charge.”
The single was produced by Vybznation Records, namely by producers Khemis and Angellica “Kelli Pea” Kelly, with background vocals by Grammy Award-winning background vocalist Geddy’s Ferguson. The mixing engineer behind the piece is Tandra “MixedByLytes” Jhagroo, with artwork by Delbert “Xgzabeher” Cespedes.
The single, which debuted yesterday, September 1, 2026, cleverly showcases the storyline of a woman’s quest to “tame” a roaming man. Tastefully done, it is set on an upbeat reggae, dancehall and Afrobeats riddim.
After a few years away from the scene following the untimely passing of his twin brother in 2021 and the consequent dissolution of their duo, Jaii and Jhoe, the reggae songbird and lyricist has been slowly re-emerging on the front through local and international performances and new music releases, starting with “Tek Charge,” while keeping the vision that he and his brother shared alive.
His journey from the loss of his twin brother back to music was previously documented in The Gleaner’s “From silence to song” feature.
It’s a testament to his intent to “tek charge” of the reggae and dancehall space, while giving his audience a taste of what is to come.
