01 Who we are
Urban Vine Media (“Urban Vine Media”, “we”, “us”, “our”) is a digital publication covering art, culture and entertainment across the Caribbean diaspora, with a particular focus on Jamaica and Jamaican culture.
Urban Vine Media is owned and operated by Push-A-Yute Entertainment Incorporation Limited (“Push A Yute”), a company incorporated in Jamaica on 25 March 2021 under company number 107943, with its registered office at 403/4 Red Hills Road, Kingston 19, Saint Andrew, Jamaica.
You can reach us at urbanvinemedia@gmail.com.
02 Agreeing to these terms
By visiting urbanvinemedia.com, reading our stories, submitting a pitch, subscribing to our newsletter, commenting, or otherwise using anything we publish, you agree to these Terms and Conditions and to our Privacy Policy.
If you do not agree with any part of these terms, please do not use the site.
You must be at least 18 years old to submit a pitch or subscribe. If you are under 18, a parent or guardian must do it on your behalf and will be treated as the person agreeing to these terms.
03 Using the site
You may read, share and enjoy our work freely. You agree that you will not:
- copy, republish or resell substantial portions of our content without written permission;
- use the site for anything unlawful, fraudulent, defamatory, hateful, harassing or obscene;
- attempt to gain unauthorised access to the site, its servers, or any connected system;
- introduce viruses, malware or any other harmful code;
- scrape, mine or harvest data from the site by automated means, or use our content to train artificial intelligence or machine learning systems, without our written permission;
- impersonate any person, or misrepresent your connection to any artist, artisan or artiste.
04 Pitches and submissions
We invite artists, artisans, artistes and other creative people to pitch themselves or their work to us. This section applies to anything you send us: a pitch form, an email, photographs, audio, video, artwork, writing, press material or any other content (“Submission”).
You keep your work
You keep ownership of everything you send us. Nothing here transfers copyright in your work to us.
What you allow us to do
By making a Submission you grant Urban Vine Media and Push A Yute a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to use, reproduce, edit, adapt, excerpt, publish, distribute and archive the Submission and any material in it, in connection with:
- editorial coverage of you or your work on urbanvinemedia.com;
- our newsletters, social media accounts, and promotional posts about that coverage;
- our archives and any collected or reprinted editions of our work.
This licence lasts for as long as we keep the related coverage published. You may withdraw a Submission at any time before we publish it. Once published, we will consider a written request to unpublish or amend, but we are not obliged to remove work from our archive.
What you are promising us
- the Submission is yours, or you have permission to send it;
- everyone identifiable in any photograph, video or recording has agreed to appear;
- the information in it is true and not misleading;
- it does not infringe anyone’s copyright, trade mark, privacy or other rights, and is not defamatory or unlawful.
No obligation, no payment
We read every pitch, but sending one does not guarantee a reply, an interview, or publication. We publish at our sole editorial discretion, on our own timeline.
Submissions are made voluntarily and unpaid. No fee, payment, royalty or other compensation is due to you for a Submission or for coverage arising from it, unless we agree otherwise in writing beforehand.
We may receive similar pitches from other people. Nothing here restricts us from covering similar subjects, or from working with anyone else.
Editing
We may edit any Submission for length, clarity, accuracy, house style and legal reasons. Final editorial control over anything we publish rests with us.
05 Being featured
If we feature you, we will normally confirm the key facts with you before publishing. We are, however, an independent publication: a feature is journalism, not advertising, and it is not subject to your approval unless we have agreed in writing that it is a sponsored or paid placement.
If something we publish about you is factually wrong, tell us and we will correct it. See Corrections and complaints.
06 Our content and your use of it
All articles, photographs, graphics, video, audio, layout and design on this site are owned by Push A Yute or licensed to us, and are protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws.
The Urban Vine Media name, the “UV” monogram and the Urban Vine Media seal are our trade marks. You may not use them without our written permission.
You may share our work by linking to it, quoting short extracts with clear credit to Urban Vine Media and a link back, and reposting our social media posts using the platform’s own share tools. Anything beyond that — including republishing a full article, using our photographs, or commercial use of any kind — needs our written permission first. Write to urbanvinemedia@gmail.com.
07 Comments and community
Where comments are open, you are responsible for what you post. Keep it civil. We may remove, edit or refuse any comment, and may block anyone, without notice and without giving reasons.
Do not post anything unlawful, defamatory, hateful, threatening, obscene, or that reveals another person’s private information. Comments are the views of the people who write them, not of Urban Vine Media.
08 Advertising and sponsored content
We may carry advertising, sponsored features, affiliate links and paid partnerships. Where content is paid for or produced in partnership with a brand, we will label it clearly as sponsored, paid, or in partnership.
Advertisers and sponsors have no influence over our independent editorial coverage.
09 Corrections and complaints
We aim to be accurate and fair. If you believe something we published is inaccurate, unfair, or infringes your rights, email urbanvinemedia@gmail.com with the headline, the date, and what specifically is wrong.
We will acknowledge within 10 working days and, where a correction is warranted, correct the article and note the correction on it.
10 Newsletters and messages
When you subscribe, or when you tick the consent box on our pitch form, you agree to receive stories, updates and promotions by email from Urban Vine Media and Push A Yute.
Every email carries an unsubscribe link, and you can unsubscribe at any time. Unsubscribing from marketing does not stop us replying to a pitch or an enquiry you sent us.
11 Other sites we link to
We link to other websites, social profiles, shops and streaming services. We do not control them and are not responsible for their content, products or privacy practices. Following a link is at your own risk.
12 No warranties
The site and its content are provided “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we make no warranties of any kind, express or implied, about the site’s availability, accuracy, completeness, or fitness for any purpose.
Our content is general editorial and cultural commentary. It is not legal, financial, medical or professional advice, and you should not rely on it as such.
13 Limits on our liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, neither Push A Yute nor Urban Vine Media, nor our directors, staff or contributors, will be liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, or for any loss of profit, revenue, business, goodwill, data or opportunity, arising out of your use of the site or anything we publish.
Where liability cannot lawfully be excluded, our total liability to you in connection with the site is limited to the greater of JMD 50,000 or the total amount you have paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose.
Nothing in these terms excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
14 Indemnity
You agree to indemnify Push A Yute and Urban Vine Media against any claim, loss, damage or cost (including reasonable legal fees) arising from a Submission you made, content you posted, or your breach of these terms.
15 Ending access
We may suspend or withdraw access to the site, or to any part of it, at any time and without notice. We may also stop publishing the site altogether.
16 Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The version on this page is always the current one, and the date at the top tells you when it last changed. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.
17 Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Jamaica. Any dispute arising out of or in connection with them is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Jamaica.
If any part of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the rest continues to apply.

This policy explains what personal data we collect when you use urbanvinemedia.com, pitch us, subscribe to our newsletter, contact us, or interact with our social media accounts — and what we do with it.
It does not cover other websites we link to, or the social platforms themselves, which have their own policies.

04 Why we use it
| Purpose | Basis under the Data Protection Act |

05 Marketing emails
If you subscribe, or tick the consent box on our pitch form, we will send you stories, updates and promotions from Urban Vine Media and Push A Yute.
Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can also email us to be removed. We act on unsubscribe requests promptly. Withdrawing consent does not affect anything we did with your data before you withdrew it.
06 Who we share it with
We share personal data only where we need to:
- Push A Yute and its brands — as the operator of Urban Vine Media, and where you consented to hear from both;
- Service providers who run our tools — website hosting and form handling, our email and newsletter platform, cloud storage, and analytics. They may only process your data on our instructions;
- Professional advisers — lawyers, accountants and auditors where necessary;
- Authorities — where we are required to disclose by law, court order, or to establish or defend legal claims;
- A buyer — if the business is sold or restructured, subject to this policy continuing to apply.
List your actual providers here — for example your host, your form handler, your newsletter platform and your analytics tool. Naming them is good practice and expected by the Act’s transparency standard.
07 Sending data outside Jamaica
Some of the services we use store data on servers outside Jamaica, including in the United States and Europe. Where personal data is transferred out of Jamaica, we take reasonable steps to ensure it receives an adequate level of protection, through the terms of our contracts with those providers and the safeguards recognised under the Data Protection Act, 2020.
08 How long we keep it
- Pitches we don’t take forward — up to 24 months, in case we revisit the idea, then deleted;
- Pitches that become stories — kept as part of our editorial record for as long as the story remains published;
- Newsletter subscriptions — until you unsubscribe, plus a minimal record so we don’t email you again;
- Enquiries and correspondence — up to 24 months;
- Published articles, photographs and interviews — indefinitely, as a public archive;
- Records we must keep by law — for the period the law requires.
09 Keeping it safe
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal data against loss, misuse and unauthorised access, including encrypted connections to our site, access controls on our accounts, and limiting access to the people who need it.
No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure. If a breach occurs that is likely to affect you, we will notify you and the Office of the Information Commissioner as required by the Data Protection Act, 2020.
10 Your rights
Under the Data Protection Act, 2020 you have the right to:
- be told whether we hold personal data about you, and to be given a copy of it;
- have inaccurate personal data corrected;
- have personal data erased or blocked in certain circumstances;
- object to processing that causes you unwarranted damage or distress;
- stop us using your data for direct marketing at any time;
- not be subject to decisions based solely on automated processing;
- complain to the Office of the Information Commissioner.
To exercise any of these, email urbanvinemedia@gmail.com with “Data request” in the subject line. We may ask you to confirm your identity, and we will respond within the time the Act allows.
Some rights are limited where we are processing personal data for journalistic purposes, or where the law requires us to keep records.
11 Cookies and analytics
Our site uses cookies and similar technologies to keep it working, remember your preferences, and understand which stories people read. Some are set by us, and some by the platforms we use to host the site, embed video, and measure traffic.
You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings. Some parts of the site may not work properly if you do.
If you use Google Analytics, embedded video, social pixels or advertising cookies, name them here and say what each is for.
12 People we write about
As a publication, we collect and publish information about people in the course of journalism — artists, artisans, artistes, event organisers and public figures. We do this in the public interest and in reliance on the exemptions the Data Protection Act, 2020 provides for journalistic purposes.
If you are the subject of something we have published and you believe it is inaccurate or unfair, contact us at urbanvinemedia@gmail.com and we will look into it.
13 Children
Our site and our forms are intended for people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. Where a story involves a person under 18, we seek the consent of a parent or guardian.
If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
14 Changes
We may update this policy. The version on this page is always current, and the date at the top tells you when it last changed. Where a change is significant, we will tell subscribers by email.
