Growing up between Top Hill, Clarendon, and York Street in Linstead, Jordane Wilson developed a deep love for reading and writing. She is her mother’s firstborn and spent several years as an only child. As a result, she developed a sense of independence that has remained with her beyond childhood.
While Jordane has many fond memories of growing up and sharing close relationships with her cousins, she also faced a myriad of challenges, including an absent father, epilepsy, molestation and financial hardship. These experiences contributed to crippling depression and anxiety that followed her into adulthood.
Jordane was raised in the Jehovah’s Witness faith but departed from it in her early twenties. After continuing to struggle with depression and poor mental health, she gave her life to Christ in 2019 and was baptised at York Street Prayer Time Ministry. Church hurt and disappointment marked much of her early experience in the church; however, her faith and walk with Christ never wavered.
In 2021, God inspired her to write her first book, Built to Stand, an autobiography outlining the journey that led to her walk with Jesus. She later released Jesus Is Calling: New Converts Guide, a non-fiction instructional guide for new followers of the Christian faith.
In this interview, we ask Jordane eight questions that allow her to share her work and offer insight into who she is as a young woman, author and follower of Christ.
Who are you, and what do you do?
I am Jordane Wilson, and I am a human resources officer by profession, and a writer. I also make all natural body care products under the brand, Lou’s BodyCare. And, I am an owner of an online thrift store named Thrift Yardie.
What have you made so far, and what are you working on now?
I am the author of two published books, Built to Stand and Jesus Is Calling: New Converts Guide. The first is an autobiography, while the latter is a guide for new converts and Christians who have transitioned into the Kingdom of God.
I am currently in the process of publishing my third book, Redeemed to Rise, which is set to be released in 2026.
What’s the first move when a new piece starts? Walk us through it.
I believe all writers are unique, and our sources of inspiration vary. Personally, when I am inspired by a thought, I quickly begin to write, whether in an electronic notepad or a physical one.
I may not speak for all creatives, but I have realised that when inspiration comes, it is best to avail oneself of it immediately, or the wave fades. When I sit with inspiration, I do not focus on being grammatically correct in the moment. Instead, I focus on getting the thought out of my mind and onto something physical.
What advice about this industry did you receive that turned out to be wrong?
I was led to believe that producing a good book or art form was enough for it to be widely received or acknowledged. I later learned that quality alone is not the only determining factor.
What would you want people to say about your work 50 years from now?
I want my readers to be able to say that they saw themselves in my work. In a world where many people feel lonely, I want my readers to feel seen and understood. It is very important to me that they feel inspired by my work.
What’s a cause that’s very dear to your heart?
I am passionate about underprivileged children and young people who are affected by broken homes and father absenteeism. I believe that if we are ever to see a change in society, it must begin in the lives of our youth.
If you woke up with US$1 million tomorrow, what’s the first thing you’d do?
I’d definitely create a charity that provides housing for homeless children.

This strong woman of God will release her third book, Redeemed to Rise, this year. Through it, she hopes to continue inspiring and uplifting young people while encouraging them to develop a closer walk with God.
