Kingston, Jamaica — March 11, 2026 — JaMIN Studio has officially launched in The Cultural Space, Trench Town, Kingston 12, introducing a new recording, production, and creative hub designed to empower the next generation of Jamaican talent while preserving the cultural legacy of one of the island’s most historic communities.
Positioned in the heart of Trench Town, JaMIN Studio is built to function as both a professional creative facility and a development platform for emerging and established creatives. The studio brings together music production, mentorship, technical training, and cultural heritage in a modern environment designed to support Jamaica’s evolving creative industry.
JaMIN Studio offers a wide range of services including music production, mixing and mastering, podcast recording, voice-over recording, DJ lessons, artist development, workshops, and mentorship opportunities. The studio also provides AVID-supported Pro Tools certification, allowing aspiring engineers and producers to receive internationally recognized training in professional audio production.
The initiative was conceptualised by Don McDowell, a pioneer in audio engineering education in Jamaica who has provided Studio Engineering and Music Business training for more than three decades. McDowell collaborated with Dr. Henley Morgan, Chairman of the Agency for Innercity Renewal (AIR), to develop an institute that addresses multiple aspects of Jamaica’s music ecosystem, from engineering training and artist development to events management and promotion.
JaMIN Studio has received initial support from the United Development Plan Programme and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), with more recent funding support coming from the Jamaica Stock Exchange.
Located in a community internationally recognised for its influence on reggae music and Jamaican culture, the studio aims to build on Trench Town’s historic legacy while creating new pathways for young creatives. By combining professional-grade facilities with education and mentorship opportunities, JaMIN Studio seeks to strengthen Jamaica’s creative economy and expand access to industry-level training.
The launch also aims to introduce the studio to artists, media, industry partners, and the wider public, while establishing JaMIN Studio as a credible and professional space for creative production and training.
JaMIN Studio’s mission is to create a modern creative home for Jamaican talent rooted in cultural preservation, youth development, professional production, and creative entrepreneurship. The studio’s identity is built around helping creatives “make it JaMIN” by developing the skills and professionalism needed to succeed in the global creative industry.
