Good day everyone. Thanks for reading, subscribing and giving us the feed back. This subject s really simple. Showmanship and what defines it.
This is the dictionary meaning “skill at entertaining, theatrical presentation, or performance.” Not with all these shows going on the selling out of all these arenas. There is one concern we have heard amongst patrons. They are speaking on showmanship. Here are a couple examples of where these questions get asked within entertainment and tour or spot dates.
When they ask about the set and the line up. The set is really what makes up the show from the optical standpoint. The backdrop, the choreography of the dancers. The costume the way everyone was attired. Was the stage moving was everything synced. Again these are basic thoughts and ideas when going into creating a great showcase. Now there are some acts that the nostalgic feelings overshadow the set. We see that with Buju Banton and Vybz Kartel (2 night sold out show at the Barclays).
Now with all that said we would like to highlight that towards the promoters and the artist with great songs but not the best stage presence. Work on the stage performance and showmanship as that might just be the difference between staying local or growing as an international brand.
Ninja Man, Beenie Man, Capleton, Elephant Man, Buju are just a few names who are renowned for their showmanship and the ability to command a stage and audience. It’s a lost artform that is now exposing the genre on a wider scale. As for now this is just an eye opener to those who understand the power of showmanship and a warning for those who don’t see how important it is.
